Writings of a Web Developer

Of the two new blogs, mine is presentable to the community. Rehuel.com is now ready for action.

This blog will hold stories, experiences and tutorials related to my work. I separated these because I don’t want them to get lost in all the rants and information about Suriname as it is and will be presented here.

The same link exchange offer is valid for Rehuel.com: you give me a link somewhere on your site with a very brief description, And I’ll do the same. I keep them in my blogroll until I reach 10, then I make a post with those links and remove them from the blogroll.

Don’t review me, mention me

In the past couple of days I realized that there are more and more people who create a “Review me” challenge. Understandable, because that concept should work. But, then there should be supply and demand. If everyone now starts to ask to a review and no one wants to review for free, then we understand how the fun runs out.

So why not make it easy? I still need your linkbacks, so let’s change my Review me challenge a little.

  • All I need you to do is to talk about me and link to me, even if it’s only one sentence. So all I require is a genuine mentioning of me and something about me, and a link to my blog, anywhere in my blog.
  • Just make sure to let me know about this mentioning of my name by sending me an email with the link to where it’s mentioned.
  • I then will gather 10 of such links and mention them in 1 post, each with a short description of the site or its publisher.

This way you don’t need a write an entire post about me, but still getting my linkback.

Another copycat? Why not? Review me!

So I see that Matt Coddington and Mitchell Harper got to copying the idea of John Chow to review my site for a linkback, before I did. But if the idea is good, why not implement it?

So here goes:

Write me a review
Yes, just write a review of my blog. I need the critique, be it negative or positive. Make it at least 200 words.

Requirements
You need to at least have a link to my homepage (www.afewgoodnotes.com) and a link to this post. Also, for the fun of it, give my site an overall score from 1 through 10.

When done
Send me an email. Or postcard, or fax. Whichever suites you better. I’d suggest the email option, cause I get that faster and the chances of you getting my address and fax number are very slim.

What you get
You get a link back to your site, with a short description of your site. Every 10 reviews I get, I make a new post linking those 10.

See, it’s almost just like Matt’s and like Mitchell’s, so like John’s. Now only to hope it works :o)

Are you a smart entrepeneur?

One of the websites that attract my attention is the blog of Mitchell Harper, HarpzOn.com, subtitled “Business, technology and online marketing for smart entrepreneurs”.

This blog was started less than a week ago, but already has a lot of visitors especially compared to me.

When I bumped into this site through John Chow’s blog, I saw a “rich kid with a lot of money to spend on promotion and marketing, so it was easy for him to get the attention he needed”. But the more I read through the blog, the more I saw that this kid is merely a struggling kid as myself, with a certain goal in mind and the willpower to reach it. He talks about certain aspects of business from a certain angle, other than you usually read.

I like the fact that Mitchell speaks his mind. If he likes something, he’ll say it. The same with if he dislikes something. He gathers information on how to better his business, but is not hesitant to share that knowledge.

But one thing is clear: Mitchell Harper plans to get a lot of traffic in a very short time.

Oh, I almost forgot This.

This is the second of my reviews. I might be doing reviews pretty soon. Or not!

I want to be like Mike (or John)

Growing up, we all have people we want to be like. At that moment, there would be “nothing better in the world to be like Xyz”. A lot of us who play(ed) basketball tried to be as much as His Airness Michael Jordan. Watching Michael play gave goosebumps every time. “If I could only do half of what that man can do.”

In the same way, when you enter the global blogosphere as participant, there will be people who will attract your attention and usually be your inspiration to get a lot done. To me one of those people was John Chow.

It was one of those moments when you browse and your eye falls on one of those Ads by Gooooooooogle (enough o’s?) and you just click, because there is a word in the ad that sounds interesting. From that moment I have been busy with John’s website almost a quarter of the time I’m sitting at my desk.

The amount of information on this site can be considered very helpful. The “Make money from your blog” category kept me busy for a while. It actually is still keeping me busy. This category is loaded with tips on how to make your blog ready to make money.

In the near future I will start reviewing sites in exchange for a linkback, a concept I learned from John. Even though I eventually will be charging for those reviews, I don’t mind doing it just to be able to grow.

Through his site, I got to know of the existence of programs and services like Feedburner, MyBlogLog and Text Link Ads. I felt a certain amount of stimulation after “discovering” his site.

I do notice that there is a lot of advertising going on, especially on the home page. This makes it a little less easy to read through the content. But I also understand that those ads are paying the bills (and more…).

I might not be profiting from my blog in the near future as much as John does, but I will make sure that I suck out every bit of information that is available on his website, that can help me present my blog to a constantly growing audience.

For now, John Chow dot Com gets 4,5 out of 5 stars.
