2 months later…

Since we went to St Vincent I didn’t get a chance to write.

St. Vincent was great! I made a lot of nice pictures to give you an idea of what we’ve seen there. You can check them out at gallery.afewgoodnotes.com.

In the mean time we went to Suriname for the holidays. Most of our time there was used to tend to family. We did go to the hot spots around the year end. I will post those pictures soon.

Now, I’m back in Guyana. I have a fairly stable internet connection, so now I can update my blogs regularly.

Jumping through time

Since I moved, there is a lot that’s been happening.

My wife Barbara and I stayed in a aparthotel for almost 2 months, waiting for our house to become vacant. We finally moved in our house last month.

Since September, I’ve been making new friends, getting to know Georgetown, getting settled in and finishing some existing work. Since most of it is not very fresh in my mind right now, I’ll skip the details and start writing my new posts about the present.

The new design

As I give rebirth to this blog, I think it’s important to start with changing the look of this blog. The previous design was good for the time.

There may be some changes in the coming weeks, as long as I feel the need for changes to suite my taste.

I hope I will get feedback to make this blog as enjoyable to read as possible.

Back to the original purpose

When I started this blog, it was supposed to be the spot where I would just write about my experiences in life. I later decided to split it up. I started Rehuel punt kom, where I wrote about my experiences as a web developer. This blog was more about Suriname, but I decided to make that a separate blog. A few good notes was then used for some poetry. I found that I still needed a place to write about my personal experiences in life, so I started Blogging notes, a combination of those experiences and writings about my attempts to earn a living online.

Due to a lot of factors (lack of time, my move to Guyana, a lot of work related issues) I haven’t updated my blogs for a while. Now I’m starting everything up again. This time I decided I will only have 3 main blogs: A few good notes for my personal experiences in life, Rehuel punt kom for my technical stuff and Blogging notes for “making money online” related issues.

I am committing myself to writing at least 3 to 5 posts in each blog every week. I have been trying to get some friends to blog a little, but I need to practice what I preach first.

Help Get Rehuel to FOOA

I recently got a free pass to the Future of Online Advertising conference in New York on June 7-8.

First I thinking of letting it slide, because I don’t have the means to pay for my trip to NY. But, as you can read in the post titled Get Rehuel to FOOA in my other blog, an article I read encouraged me to at least try to find the funding to attend this conference.

Please read reasons why I believe that I need to attend this conference and how you can help.

If 300-400 chip in $10, I’m well on my way to NY, a trip that could provide me with a lot of information that I could share with my readers.

Infektia, The first poetic blogger

My “How poetic are bloggers” meme lost it’s virginity to Infektia. Yes, I wrote a poem too, but that was more like masturbation.

Even though she thinks her poem is crap, I think it’s a nice try for someone who says she sucks at this.

Her reward
All other poems will just get listed in one post, with the name of the blog (linked) and a link to the poem. As you can see, Infektia got herself a separate post. Plus, I added her blog to my blogroll. I am one of her loyal readers (through her feed) so that doubles the reasons why she deserves a spot in my blogroll.

Thanks Malin, for being my first.

How poetic are bloggers?

A while ago I decided to turn this blog in a poetry blog. But unfortunately I didn’t have time since then to concentrate more on getting the poetry going.

So in an effort to get people to write a few good notes, I’m going to start a poetry meme.

Rules of the game
The rules are simple:

  1. Write a poem in your blog. This can be an existing poem (please name the poet in this case) but it’s nicer if you come up with an original poem yourself.
  2. Tag 1 to 3 other bloggers of whom you think they might be creative and talented to write a poem. Or maybe you’re just interested in knowing what they would come up with.
  3. Make a link to this post, so I can make a list of all the participants, with links to their poem. Linking to this post should provide a pingback so I know who’s participating. If you don’t see your pingback in the comments, just drop me a comment so I can list your poem

Optional
You can also register and copy the post you wrote in your blog to this blog. Why?

The rules of this blog
Make sure you read the rules of this blog before registering, posting and commenting here. Let’s keep this a clean place for poetry to reside.

The first
To start off I tag myself, Kumiko and Ilker.

Happy World Poetry Day

Today is World Poetry Day. According to Wikipedia

World Poetry Day is on March 21, and was declared by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999. The purpose of the day is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world and, as the UNESCO session declaring the day says, to “give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements.”

Let us all enjoy this day appropriately. Write some poetry (and post it here), read some poetry for an audience, visit poetry readings somewhere in your neighborhood.

If you’ve had a nice experience today, let us know about it.

5 good reasons to write your poem here

I am in the process of changing my blog to a poetry blog, where everyone can post their poem to be rated and commented on by visitors. What are the benefits for you?

  1. Your can have a free link to your own blog/site when you register as author.
When visitors click on your name under the title of your poem, they find your information with a link to your site.
  2. You stimulate your creative writing abilities
  3. You could possibly win some prizes, who knows. Who knows what good being the poet with the most votes can bring you.
  4. You could get discovered for your hidden poetic abilities
  5. You are helping me to build this poetry blog

Just make sure you read the rules, so you know what the boundaries are.
