Poetic Bloggers contest, part 1

3 weeks ago I started a meme to see how poetic bloggers really are. Once tagged, a blogger needed to write a poem in his/her blog, linking it to the original post of the meme, so I could gather the names and poems and list them here on the site. As you can see, a number of bloggers dared to be the first to jump in, to them, unexplored territory. And I think it’s good to give them an extra reward.

The contest
I’ve copied all the poems here on this post. You, the visitor, can vote for your favorite poem in the poll in this post. This poll will last for exactly 1 week. the winner will be announced.

The price

Here are the participating poems:

My Second Wife by Rehuel
When I get up out of bed
Where I was sleeping next to my wife
I walk straight to the other room
where I spend most of my life.

There she is, always ready for me
My computer, my second wife
The one I can’t be separated from
with gun or with knife

Call me a geek or whatever
but when I reboot her
I can feel the rush of energy
from my second wife, my computer

Antidepressants by Infektia
The curtain rolls down before my eyes
I’m not dizzy
I feel just fine

Welcoming the foggy feeling
It makes me feel fine
I’m no longer bleeding

Just one white a day
will make my life easy as a play

Intoxicating by Ms. Q
I am intoxicating.
Intoxicating, eroticating,
Distilled.
I pour myself into you
Essence into sensualence
I am liquid
pure
one hundred proof
I burn.
I burn.
I burn into you.

Some People You Just Love by MsQ
Love ain’t always easy.
If loving were easy, we’d all be doing it.
It’s not an equitable relationship but you love them anyway.
You love them because they are so difficult to love.
You love them because you know they love you but aren’t so great with the whole loving business.
You love them because they teach you that love isn’t always easy.
You love them because no one else does.
You love them and sometimes you want to just walk away because life would be so much easier.
You love them because they force you to grow and change and accept.
If loving were easy, we’d all be doing it.

Vogon Poetry by Jingwen
It beckons
Crimson calls
Four letters strike me
Heart flutters
Circle Slash Circle
Rummaging, searching, Eureka!
My wallet is now empty

Unnamed Poem by Chien Yee
My mother is so loving, so gentle and kind,
Whenever I’m in trouble she’d say all will be fine,
Whenever I’m sick she’ll be by my bedside,
And kiss me gently before saying good-night.

Roses are red by Mr. Gary Lee
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
The Queen come a calling
And Said “What about you?”

So, I think and I Ponder
My Mind starts to Wander
Will My Lakers beat the Suns?
Jessica Alba has Nice Buns
How Easy it is in Virginia to Buy Guns

Then it comes to me
Some would say it’s an epiphany
As the Dark becomes Light
And I begin to write . . . . .

Roses are red, the Geek version by Julie
Roses are #FF0000.
Violets are #0000FF.
You’re a geek girl.
And I love you.

Roses are red by Marissa
Roses are red
The saying goes
But they also
Tickle my nose.

Unnamed Poem by Belinda
I had a dream a few days ago,
I was partying with peeps I don’t know,
I eventually discerned,
Into zombies they’d turned,
Not the fast type but more so the slow.

Renaissance girl by Dee
She’s a writer, a gamer
and an artist in one.
A jack of all trades
and a master of none.

There are few talents left
she hasn’t given a whirl.
A true 21st century
Renaissance girl

Unnamed Haiku by Jesse Powell
A big bear in look
And something of a shut-in
He likes to write fluff.

I am no Sarah Jones by Danielle
I saw a vision of pure beauty and strength
And her name was Sarah Jones
Assured, confident, and eloquent
She was a true woman’s woman

Now I am no Sarah Jones
Not by any means even close
No Tony to tout, or New York Times acclaim
But I’m a woman just the same

Your revolution will not happen between these thighs
Is what I heard her proclaim
She didn’t have to repeat it but she did

And we all stood

And we applauded

And no, we’re not her, but she is us

Unnamed Poem by Nan
The rats live in the sewers -
along with dirt, rotten corpses, corpse eaters and moths -
Here they have their malls and growths -
and weaklings dangling from the slimy ceiling -
This place smells like violets and dried out snail
and the little fat man’s shop on wheels -
When it’s night here is a party -
and long tables with gross snacks here and there -
There is talking and gossiping -
and the naked tails entwine -
while the rat children play -
Rat daddy drinks beer -
with his friends from the ghetto on the local bar -
and beats up Rat mum -
And it is late night -
and they love eachother -
and the children sleep peacefully -
while their little livers starts to rot -
and everything is wonderful.

The blue beyond by Kelly Cho
When gazing up into the stars
I’m awed at what is out so far
Just a tiny speck of nothing
There I wander, dare I wonder
In the blue beyond

With worry, time just slips away
The problems are but of this day
But callously we’re led astray
To think truly we are bigger
Than the blue beyond

Let glittering stardust fall below
And guide these poor relentless souls
Ever thinking of them solely
Fighting, crying, shouting, dying
To the blue beyond

Sinking by Melissa
As the rain pours from the sky,
I feel my heart begin to sink.
The same way it does
When you begin to speak.

You dwell upon the past,
No desire to let it go.
You have scars deep within,
As deep as blizzard snow.

Your heart has hardened.
Your trust, you’ve lost.
You hide your love,
You trust no one.

How can you live in the cage of your mind
With no one to love?
How can you walk through life
Blind to your own emotions?

I don’t understand you.
You don’t understand me.
And yet somehow, someway,
We get along so perfectly.

The PHP tree by RJ “Bobs” Matthis
From your roots that were planted by Rasmus Lerdorf
To your expanding branches fed by Coder’s hard work
Oh why do people refuse to use strtotime()?
The correct function for the job makes your app sublime
Using substr() I can return chosen partial strings
Or I will start a while() loop that returns many things
Always use a switch() statement if options are many
Too many elseif() statements will drag you down plenty

Filter the input and always escape output if User Entry
Security is most important, not just complementary
Preventing MySQL injections is a very important thing!
So always be sure to use mysql_real_escape_string()

My PHP Tree, how beautiful are your functions
Since finding you I have never felt any compunction
Using your objects & functions makes me a happy fellow
Oh PHP, you have had me ever since typing echo()

Infektia, The first poetic blogger

My “How poetic are bloggers” meme lost it’s virginity to Infektia. Yes, I wrote a poem too, but that was more like masturbation.

Even though she thinks her poem is crap, I think it’s a nice try for someone who says she sucks at this.

Her reward
All other poems will just get listed in one post, with the name of the blog (linked) and a link to the poem. As you can see, Infektia got herself a separate post. Plus, I added her blog to my blogroll. I am one of her loyal readers (through her feed) so that doubles the reasons why she deserves a spot in my blogroll.

Thanks Malin, for being my first.

How poetic are bloggers?

A while ago I decided to turn this blog in a poetry blog. But unfortunately I didn’t have time since then to concentrate more on getting the poetry going.

So in an effort to get people to write a few good notes, I’m going to start a poetry meme.

Rules of the game
The rules are simple:

  1. Write a poem in your blog. This can be an existing poem (please name the poet in this case) but it’s nicer if you come up with an original poem yourself.
  2. Tag 1 to 3 other bloggers of whom you think they might be creative and talented to write a poem. Or maybe you’re just interested in knowing what they would come up with.
  3. Make a link to this post, so I can make a list of all the participants, with links to their poem. Linking to this post should provide a pingback so I know who’s participating. If you don’t see your pingback in the comments, just drop me a comment so I can list your poem

Optional
You can also register and copy the post you wrote in your blog to this blog. Why?

The rules of this blog
Make sure you read the rules of this blog before registering, posting and commenting here. Let’s keep this a clean place for poetry to reside.

The first
To start off I tag myself, Kumiko and Ilker.

Midnight

My season is Winter
Darkest season of all
My hour is midnight
Hour of darkness
I walk in the snow
A wolf in the night, midnight
Fure of silver, eyes filled with darkness
These eyes look at the moon, the full moon
They see light, light to replace darkness
But the light can not enter these eyes
And the darkness remains
I keep on walking through the snow
Looking for warmt and light
But my season is winter
And my hour in midnight

Rafek

A Good Hard Ride

There’s nothing like

a good hard ride

it’s a tonic for the soul

The rhythm, the pounding,

the movement combines -

to accentuate your growth

The beasts hot breathe,

the flowing mane,

the legs locked in a grip -

The feeling of being

entwined as one

attached from hip to hip.

Such primitive

primal glory -

such unrelenting force -

Please remember that

this poem’s  about

what it’s like to ride a horse……..
